Start with the space
A warehouse aisle, office desk and hospitality counter have different lighting needs. Record what is difficult about the current lighting before selecting replacements. A simple like-for-like swap may not resolve glare, uneven illumination or a poor layout.
Compare actual electrical use
Estimate lighting energy using the input power and operating hours, including any controls. Lower-wattage LED fittings may reduce usage, but the comparison must reflect the proposed layout and equivalent useful light. Avoid assuming a fixed saving for every building.
Plan access and disruption
High-level fittings can require access equipment. Offices may need work phased around occupied desks, while shops need to consider trading hours. Agree disposal of replaced fittings and any wiring alterations as part of the scope.
Think about maintenance
Consider replacement availability, driver access and the environment in which the fittings will operate. Ask how controls will be used and make sure the handover explains them. Share a floor plan and working hours when requesting a quotation.
